Ciao, grazie

By on September 13, 2016

Those 2 words are the extent of my grasp of the Italian language.  So that’s embarrassing but it seems to be ok to get me a gelato or vino.

We are on our third day here and already enamoured and thinking about when we come back.

First, the food

Did you know gelato was first made here?  So I’m using that as an excuse to try one gelato per day. For scientific reasons of course.

This was the best gelato I had all day. ?

Stopped for a quick bite of some pizza.  Yes, we ordered three when there was only 2 of us.  You come here and see how it is impossible to choose only 2.

Omg this pizza.

Omg this pizza.

Apparently Florence is known for its Bizteca, so we will try this tonight.  With a side dish of pasta of course.

And the wine!

later, when looking at pictures of my trip, I will wonder why I got fatter even with all the stair climbing etc, then I will remember this food.

I chose this pic of me eating this sandwich over the sweaty one. That gives you an idea of how bad the sweaty one is.

Museums

We climbed the Duomo, and I had an inkling it might be hard when I noticed no very old or very fat people in the line up.  Tom took a picture of how sweaty I was when we finally got to the top, but Im not posting it.  We got up close and personal to the frescos of another old church.  I will say this was worth it

It clearly stated no writing on the walls and I found this. Tom?

Here he is, Mr So Happy We Climbed Those Stairs. It was an excellent view and it was lovely to get out of the stairwell.

Also we went through the famous Uffuzi.  We hired a guide to help make the most of our time-I think it was worth it.  Lots of interesting paintings of the Virgin, Jesus, and of course Venus.   However the crowds of people could make a person enraged, if one was inclined to get ragey.

My exact expression halfway through the Uffuzi.

We also went through the Boboli gardens  The name is deceiving as there are no flowers here or even green grass. There are however a lot of funny statues and a lot of stairs.

Bachuss the God of fun and wine. And riding turtles apparently.

Bachuss the God of fun and wine.  I think when the fountain is working, water comes out of his wee penis.

This is not the Statue of Liberty. I don't know what it is but she has wheat instead of a goblet and I thought that was funny.

Our apartment here is in the best location and is super cute.  The owner is also a painter and has original paintings all over the walls. The building is 17th century.  So far Air B&B is working out very well for us.

See my cute little head up there?

It's basically an art museum in here.

Tomorrow we go see the real David and a bunch of other statues.  Also going to climb the bell tower(to work off some gelato).  Then we head to Rome on the afternoon train.

side note, yesterday was my Dads first heavenly birthday.  I was going to do something that he would do; but red wine, climbing stairs and eating pasta were all things he didn’t like.  I considered having a rye and maybe sneaking a smoke, but I just couldn’t do that after those stairs. ❤️
