Just go with it

Finished my rejuvenate and solitude time very Kerfree style. It was not boring at all. I think I might be rested?

Thejan Beach Cabanas

Well Auntie Sheryl was probably right. I should have changed hotels. The 3 days construction never did look close to being completed. It started early and went late every day.

The third night I spotted a very large mouse(rat) in my luxurious outdoor bathroom. Then just as I was falling asleep it woke me up with the most horrible gnarly growl chew sound as it was trying to get to me through the ceiling. I got up and told the nighttime manager and he said if I’m scared he will just come sleep with me. Hahah- not scared I said- enraged! (Actually I was scared, just didn’t want the manager to sleep with me)

In the morning after a sleepless night imagining what the rat will do to me, I changed rooms thanks to the day manager.

Nighttime comes. What’s that I hear? Squeak squeak squeak of a chipmunk. It didn’t sound like it wanted to chew me to death so I decided to live with it.

I spotted this little guy the next day. Guess he just wanted to get out for some exercise before he settled in for another night of squeak serenade.

River Safari

I arranged a river safari on the Bentota river. It was good because I got my first ride in a tuk tuk (pronounced toque toque) It was nice to get off the beach for a bit.

My tuk tuk ride was as awesome as I thought it might be. Full of danger and close calls and honks.

Go Pro in hand ready to record all the action.

Me and all my friends on the river safari. Language was a barrier so I made up the names of things in my head.

Large Buddha statues are everwhere. Randomly on this river even.

I did not ask to hold this baby croc. Or for it to sit in my shoulder or the top of my head. Then I had to pay 100 rupees for the displeasure.

I also got the fish massage which was hilarious and something I’ve always wanted to try. And we went through the mangroves which was super cool.

Ayurvedic Day Spa

The English couple I bothered everyday highly recommended this day spa. First I met with the Dr who diagnosed my Dosha and then prescribed some herbal medicines to fix my ailments. Annette-you will be interested to know he also diagnosed me as a Pitta just by touching my wrist and fingers in weird ways. So interesting!

The treatment also included a oil drip on ymy head for like 20 minutes. I’m still washing the oil out of my hair. #greasy

Then it was time for the massage. Good thing I had my prep massage as if you can imagine- this was more invasive.

So of course I was total nude. But this time he gets a lot more intimate. Like for a minute I was frantically trying to remember if I showered before or after I, um, you know, #2. (Before) I was trying to act cool, but come on-that finger was getting really close to the chocolate starfish.

He also massaged my very very very upper thigh while holding my leg in his arm. I was so uncomfortabke I started giggling.

He asked if it was ok if he massaged <points to vagina> I said ummm- no thank you. The he asked 3 more times in different ways. The funny thing is I don’t know what I would have done if he just started doing it. Probably tried to act cool I guess.

I had a great lunch after and he drove me home. He was a super nice guy and I think this is how Ayurvedic massages work. So I signed my mom and sisters up for one for an early a Christmas present. Let me know if you have the same experience.

I asked for a fix for my roseacea and he put yoghurt on my cheeks. Yes, they are still red.

Despite all the ups and downs, I absolutely love Sri Lanka. It’s a beautiful country and I could spend a long time here. I join my tour today and look forward to seeing more than the beach.

Buddha stuff, elephants, and tea plantations are on the top of the list. Bring on the next adventure.

Kerri I can’t believe you did that massage again ? what a trooper ? or should I say stooper ?
And that rat/chipmunk story absolutely freaked me out ?? please tell me your future accommodations are a tad better ?
That little croc ? looked cute – typical tourist thing though making you pay for something you didn’t even want to do.
Happy to hear you’ve made it to your next destination ? hope this tour group ?????‍♀️??? works out better than the last one ???? #goodluck ?
Already looking forward to your next blog ??☕️

Great title for your blog – that’s exactly what you are doing! Thanks but no thanks for the complimentary massage – I’m not that comfortable getting a regular massage where one is at least covered up, let alone Sri Lanka style.

Must have been interesting being on a tour all by yourself with a guide that doesn’t speak English. Glad you got some rest and I’m happy you are now with a tour group. Sounds like lots more adventure ahead.

I have so many interesting images in my head from reading this post about such an exotic land. One exceptionally clear image is that of the 90 yr old short wrinkled 100 lb almost vision less Dr attending to your massage…that’s my image please don’t ruin it ??

    Omg! Rat/squirrel things!!!! Yikes!!!!
Your massages are just like the ones my niece received while traveling in India. She went to the doctor for back pain twice and every visit involved removing all her clothes and the massage/oil treatment. Might be the same if you have to visit the doctor.
Glad you are enjoying Sri Lanka! Looks like a cool place!

Sounds like you are getting the FULL experience

Here’s a good quote about the ethereal nature of travelling

“The experiences we have through travel often provide an opportunity to unveil naked reflections of ourselves, if only we take the time to notice. Only not everyone perceives travel as the same opportunity, to look inward, as many become fixated with the outer experiences only.”
