Literally in the same boat

By on October 21, 2016

First I need to say- OMG WE HAVE WIFI.  I will admit to having a problem.  Moving on…

A few filters later and this boat looks bad ass.

Arrived in Male, and the weather was beautiful, the water was gorgeous and our hopes were high.  The boat was better than expected!

Our room was cozy, and it took me back to Whitney Lake camp.  I slept well at nap time and then a solid 10 hours every night while it rocked me to sleep.

This is the size of our room. Roomie took the top with windows, i got the more convenient and bigger bottom bunk. Everyone wins!

After watching a gorgeous sunset, we were all pretty stoked about what the week would hold.

Turns out this was the best sunset of the week.

Weather

Turns out if you are considering living on a boat in the middle of the ocean, you should also consider the weather.  It rained nearly everyday.  And that makes the ocean angry.  Which then makes everyone on the boat angry.

The 4 books I completed. I recommend them all.

Good thing there were books and vodka.  Our group of 8 people read 23 books.  And one person didnt read any.  So out of the 8 people, 7 of us got along quite well.  Lucky for me, that 8th person was not my roommate.

Me and my drinking buddy, Theo. That bottle didn't stand a chance.

Activities

Every day we snorkelled twice a day.  It was the highlight of the day and it was like snorkelling inside an aquarium.  We found both Dory, and Nemo.  And then all the other fish in every other Disney under the sea movie.

Snorkel time with the crew.

Other activities included hitting some islands and parking at some sandbars.

I wandered down this path on the uninhabited island. I was scared there might be snakes, but good news, just some really hungry mosquitos.

Once again I had to do laundry again.  This was more difficult on the boat-i bet Tom would have done a fine job.

This is my underwear just hanging out on a line on a boat. No shame.

Food

We ate so well on that boat.  Like, too well.  French toast for breakfast, fresh coconut for after morning snorkel, pasta for lunch and then big curry dinners.

A sampling of the dinner table at lunch.

The crew made these flying fish and hung them around our dining table. It was really nice.

We had chicken a few nights on the boat. Or at least i thought it was chicken.

Thought there was no way we would eat all those bananas.

Etc..

i was so busy reading this sign that i didnt notice why it was there. Unicorn horn for 3 days.

So now Ive arrived at Summer Island.  Im here for 5 nights of recharge before i head off to Africa for one month. I really enjoyed the people (most) in our tour group.  Most of them have travelled all over the world and it was quite fun talking to them about their trips and also their perspectives on the world.  I hope my next group is as good as this last one.

OMG What great picture of the Gahaa ! I fell over at the ” Chicken” cooler. The turbulent and beautiful sky looked incredible . Truly you are a world class adventurer now and yes I would have done the laundry in exchange for some bottom bunk time.

So relieved to finally get another post so we can see what you’ve been up to over the last week and I really enjoyed talking to you this morning. I was surprised to see how small that boat was, but also to hear how great the meals were. Glad you enjoyed most of the people in your group – those are pretty close quarters if you didn’t get along with them.

Really enjoyed the update and pics! Please keep it up! Enjoy your week of R&R! Love you!

I’m glad you all survived the boat. Shame about the weather but I suspect that it was still warm !
The hour changed here last night so I’m bracing myself for long dark days but slightly easier to get up in the morning.
    Loving the blog xx
