CO₂ resurfacing is not a single treatment. Intensity, depth, and recovery vary widely, and the lighter end of that range suits many patients better than the deepest settings.
Both are CO₂ laser resurfacing. The difference is how much of the skin surface is treated and how deeply the energy goes. Pixel Peel is a lighter, fractional approach with a shorter visible recovery. Deeper ablative resurfacing removes more tissue in one session, which can address more advanced texture and sun damage but comes with a longer and more demanding healing period.
A CO₂ laser emits a wavelength strongly absorbed by water in skin tissue. That absorption vaporizes a controlled amount of the surface (this is what "ablative" means) and heats the tissue beneath it, prompting a wound-healing response and new collagen formation as the skin repairs. Resurfacing is one of the more studied approaches in dermatology for texture, photoaging, and certain scars.
Fractional delivery changed how the treatment is used. Instead of ablating the entire surface, the beam is split into a grid of microscopic columns, leaving untreated skin between them. That surrounding tissue supports faster healing, which is why fractional treatments generally involve less downtime than fully ablative resurfacing at the same depth.
Pixel Peel CO₂ is the lighter fractional resurfacing option offered at Kërfree Aesthetics. It is intended for patients who want meaningful improvement in tone, texture, and visible sun damage without the extended recovery of a deep ablative session. It is not a substitute for a full-depth resurfacing procedure, and it is not presented as one.
Timelines are ranges, not promises. Healing depends on treatment depth, the area treated, your skin, and how closely aftercare is followed.
Deeper treatment increases both the potential response and the risk profile. Ablative resurfacing carries recognized risks including prolonged redness, infection, scarring, and changes in pigmentation, and the risk of pigment change is higher in deeper skin tones. A patient who cannot take two weeks away from work, or whose concerns are moderate, is often better served by a lighter treatment or a planned series than by the most aggressive setting available.
Evaluation covers your skin type, the specific concerns you want addressed, your history of cold sores, keloid scarring, or pigment changes, recent isotretinoin use, current medications, and your realistic availability for recovery. Active sun tanning or an infection in the area are reasons to postpone.
